Welcome To Sodium Sulphide

Sodium sulphide is the name used to refer to the chemical compound Na2S but more commonly its hydrate Na2S.9H2O. Both are a colorless water-soluble salts that give strongly alkaline solutions. When exposed to moist air, Na2S and its hydrates emit hydrogen sulfide, which smells much like rotten eggs.

Sodium Sulphide Application

Sodium Sulfide is a yellow to red solid; readily soluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol. It is a strong reducing agent and reacts with oxidants. It is primarily used in pulp and paper industry. It is used in water treatment as an oxygen scavenger agent, in the photographic industry to protect developer solutions from oxidation, in textile industry as a bleaching, as a desulfurizing and as a dechlorinating agent and in leather trade for the sulfitization of tanning extracts.

It is used in chemical manufacturing as a sulfonation and sulfomethylation agent. It is used in the production of rubber chemicals, sulfur dyes and other chemical compounds. It is use in other applications include ore flotation, oil recovery, food preservative, making dyes, and detergent.

application

Pulp and Paper

The dominant chemical pulping process is the Kraft process. In this process, Sodium Sulphide is added to the pulping liquor in order to obtain a stronger pulp than pulp produces using sodium hydroxide alone.

De-hairing hides
Compared to other de-hairing chemicals Solvay Sodium Sulphide reacts very strongly and rapidly. In addition Solvay Sodium Sulphide is an effective de-hairing agent with a low iron content, thus avoiding unwanted brown spots in the skin after liming.

Cleaning
Sodium sulphide is readily soluble in water, which makes it suitable for use in water and waste treatment.
